Big Sur Wedding Photographers!
DISCLAIMER: These photos are not taken by me, they are photos of my own engagement session by the talented Greg Balkin of Brightwood Photography.
Our Engagement Story: John proposed to me on January 9th, 2014. I had anxiously (and somewhat impatiently) been awaiting a proposal since we had picked out my wedding ring in November (and had started seriously talking marriage since June). I love vintage jewelry and we had heard about the best vintage jewelry shop in Estes Park, Fall River Antiques. So of course after we picked it out I thought it could be any day now. John had his own plan and wanted to plan something special for us not revolving around a holiday or anything else. I went to visit him in California where we had plans to drive from Ventura up to Santa Cruz to look for an apartment. We planned to go on a Friday but John surprised me Thursday morning saying we were leaving that day. Since I had pestered him before about proposing I didn’t question him about what was happening and we packed up the car. We stopped in Starbucks on our way out of town and I looked at John while we were in there and he was sweating bullets. I figured it was because he had just packed up the car but came to find out after the proposal it was because he was so nervous and anxious for what was to come. We stopped to have lunch in San Luis Obispo and shopped a little. We hit the road and continued the drive up Highway 1 into Big Sur. It was an amazing drive and once in Big Sur John pulled off to a sign to Treebones Resort. We were going to be staying the night in this amazing yurt. We explored the grounds then headed down to the beach to watch the sun set (and get some sweet instagram photos). Shortly after taking this pic John proposed. I cried and it was perfect. We were alone on the beach all evening and just got to enjoy these epic views!
Fast forward a month: I attended an amazing photo workshop in Santa Barbara called Field Trip. Though I didn’t meet Greg in person there, after the workshop he was inspired to start doing portraits of adventurous couples in epic locations and was looking for volunteers. I volunteered John and I for Big Sur since it is now one of our favorite places since we got engaged there. We met him in the early afternoon for a hike in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, then camped at Limekiln Campground and then we back to the spot where we got engaged the following morning. The tide was so high we weren’t even able to get down to the sand at the beach. We love the photos Greg. Thank you! Photos by Brightwood Photography!
I get emotional when seeing this blanket. John had given it to me for Christmas as I been wanting an awesome blanket like this. About a month or two after this my car was broken into while I was on a portrait session and this was stolen out of my backseat. I was so heart broken with it being stolen. John surprised me at our wedding by giving it to me again and if you look at our wedding photos I lost it when I saw this. It was so sweet of him.
This is the same spot where he proposed!
