Nate and Nicole are dear friends and it was an honor to photograph their South Lake Tahoe wedding. My husband John & Nate go way back, even being roommates at one point. When we all moved to Santa Cruz we lived a couple doors down in our apartment building and we enjoyed our warm evenings on the patio. Nicole and I went on a walk along the beach a few hours before my first son was born and we came home from the hospital to the sweetest welcome home Milo sign on our door from them. A little while after we moved to Oregon they also made their way back to Tahoe where Nicole grew up. There they opened a bar called The Hangar which is a figure in South Lake Tahoe these days.
For their wedding day Nicole got ready at their home and I had to spill the beans about being newly pregnant with Jasper when I had to turn down her offered champagne. For their wedding ceremony they shuttled their guests to a private field and close friend officiated it. We then took a drive in her brothers vintage Cadillac for some epic portraits and headed back to her mother’s house for their backyard reception. I can still remember crying from laughter at Nate’s brother’s wedding toast. It was the funniest speech I have ever heard to this day. They danced the night away and it was one for the books! You’d think from all their beautiful details and portraits that it was a styled shoot and not an actual wedding.
